How PerioProtect can restore the smile’s health

Many conditions can impact the health of the smile, including the development of periodontal disease. This infection, sometimes referred to as gum disease, develops within the gum tissues and can spread throughout the mouth. Dr. Ari Moskowitz, our board-certified periodontist, can help patients in the Catonsville, MD area when they have developed this condition and help them fight it with a treatment called PerioProtect.
What is PerioProtect?
Treatment of periodontal disease as soon as it is diagnosed is critical to restoring the smile and reducing the loss of problems such as lost bone, tissues, and teeth. With PerioProtect, patients can target the infection right at the source with special antibiotic medication used in an easy-to-clean tray. Patients wear the trays as directed with the medication to penetrate between the gum tissues and the teeth to treat harmful bacteria that contributes to the infection.
How does PerioProtect work?
Bacteria that contributes to gum disease thrives in the periodontal pockets that develop between the gums and the tooth. These pockets cannot be reached with brushing, flossing, and rinsing. By using a special tray with medication, patients can apply the medication where it can penetrate between these areas. PerioProtect is often prescribed for home use after a patient has had professional cleanings to get deep within these areas and offer direct treatment as well. Even after the tissue health has been restored, many patients are advised to continue using their PerioProtect system to manage their condition and keep it from getting worse with time. Our periodontist will advise patients as to the best treatment course for their unique situation to ensure the condition is treated and managed properly.
